Sevenoaks in Maylands is a residential complex housing twenty-one apartments over two floors in a U shaped configuration. It is a quiet mix of owner occupiers, long and short term and renters reside in the complex.
The building was erected in 1948 and though it did not receive much love and attention over the ensuing years, the current body corporate is very active and has completed, over the last ten years, a rejuvenation program of the building including new plumbing and electrical renovations, a new roof, a cosmetic refurbishment including new rendered finish and repaint.
Whatley Court Maylands
Whatley Court in Maylands is home to our two short stay one bedroom apartments. In a well maintained 1960’s complex, these two apartments are on the ground floor with sliding glass doors opening to private patios. Suitable for contract workers, visiting professionals, intrastate visitors, interstate and overseas guests too.
Maylands the area
Maylands is a suburb located approximately 4.5 kilometres (2.8 mi) northeast of Perth centred on the Midland railway line and located on the northern bank of the Swan River.
The suburb was developed during the 1890s and is currently an administrative locality within the City of Bayswater (having been mostly located within the City of Stirling until 1998), bordered by the suburbs of Mount Lawley, East Perth and Bayswater. Maylands railway station provides easy access to the City centre and beyond. Recently a shared bicycle / pedestrian path was built to link Maylands with neighbouring suburbs via the shoreline of the Swan River. There is also a small yacht club and a golf course.
In 1896 the name “Maylands” was first used to identify the area, appearing on a poster advertising a land auction. However the exact reason how the area got its name is something of a mystery. One theory is that Mephan Ferguson (owner of the local foundry) was responsible for naming the area, in honour of his aunt and daughter whom were both named May. Another theory is the area was named by Edgar. W. Hamer (Golds Estates of Australia) after he inspected land in the locality sometime in the month of May.
Strategically located, Perth’s Eastern Region hosts Western Australia’s major air, road and rail transport hub for movement of freight and passengers throughout Perth, intrastate, interstate and overseas. The major industrial areas of Malaga, Welshpool, Kewdale, Hazelmere, Forrestfield, Bayswater and Bassendean play key roles in transport, storage, manufacturing and logistics servicing the state’s construction and resource sectors.
Perth’s Eastern Region is undergoing rapid expansion and growth with major capital investments including intermodal freight terminal development, major airport and road redevelopment, and education and health investment. Increasingly, the inner city areas are becoming home to large national and international companies seeking office and commercial accommodation within close proximity of the city, key stakeholders and major transport routes.
In 2015 Maylands has an exciting and cosmopolitan shopping precinct on Eighth Avenue and Whatley court with a bevvy of interesting specialty and pop up shops, eateries, services, supermarkets and utilities.
